Matt's Travel Story
Matt Thompson's Travel Story
Q: What song do you have on repeat when you travel?
Recently I've been listening to anything by Aretha Franklin. "Gypsy" by Fleetwood Mac is definitely a go-to song as well. The Nirvana MTV Unplugged in New York album is up there too.
Q: Do you ever get cold on the plane? If so, do you ring the flight attendant for a blanket or do you just endure and suffer?
Luckily I usually have a blanket on my seat. But if I don't and I'm cold - of course I will ring! Always asking very politely, of course.
Q: How far in advance do you book a trip for?
It depends. Sometimes for work I have no choice and have to jump on the flight the next day! If I can help it, I like to book at least one month out.
Q: What is your favorite beach vacation to visit?
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Q: What is the one personal product you can't travel without?
Headphones (obvi), but a recent and incredible discovery for flights is the Chanel Hydra Beauty Essence Face Mist. Keeps you v moisturized which is especially important for the long hauls! (Yes, I know I am a diva.)
Q: AirBnB or Hotels?
Hotels -- gotta have my points!
Q: What is your favorite thing to order from room service?
Chicken wings.
Q: What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you on a travel trip?
One time in the middle of a red-eye flight to Paris my coworker caught me watching (and bawling to) Stepmom. But honestly I'll proudly own it.
Q: Do you bring a physical book or just read on your iPad?
Still a big fan of the physical book.
Q: Do you work out when you travel, or nah?
I try to! I usually get in at least one good run or two.
Q: If you could time travel, what age would you travel back to?
If you mean in my life, then I would say 21. If you mean age as in time-period I would say the 70's.
Q: Favorite movie?
Casino. Love Sharon Stone and Martin Scorsese.
Q: Favorite musician?
I'm going with a favorite band -- Fleetwood Mac
Q: What is the most you've ever paid for wifi in a hotel room?
One of the reasons for my answer to question 6 above-- you don't have to pay for wifi when you are loyal to hotels and earn status!
Q: What's the most expensive thing you've gotten confiscated at TSA?
It was actually an Oribe hair product right when they implemented the liquids rule. I will usually grab the travel size Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray before a trip. I wouldn't dream of traveling with something over 3.4 oz. A friend of mine had an entire container La Mer gel creme confiscated--- that put the fear of god into me.
Q: Let's travel back through time, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don't really remember, but I think a doctor at some point. And actually pretty early on I wanted to work in "international business" which essentially is what I'm doing now!
Q: Favorite childhood book?
Mr. Popper's Penguins, a classic.
Q: Favorite childhood movie you watched all the time?
Home Alone.
